Future Plan
Yes, you didn't misread the title. I actually have a future plan. I have planned what I'm going to do in the next 4 years. Even I, never imagined I would ever have a life plan mapped out. I guess the effect of Leadership course assignment last year works wonder.

Future plan

As you can see from the picture, my plan and Nick's plan. People thought my term of "Settling down" means "get married and have half a dozen children". NO!! It's NOT it! By the age of 24 I think I should stop being selfish and start thinking about not just myself but also other people that have supported me throughout my life. Settling down means basing myself more permanently and start building a career. I *hopefully* had done all the fun by that time and it would be a great time to start thinking about my life more seriously and stop mucking around.

I have also put "MC" as my alternative alongside with a couple of other options. Keeping my options open is the key to my life plan. When one goes wrong.. there is always a Plan B... and Plan C. No further study mentioned but, I might considering taking a Master or something. We will see how fried my brain would be by the end of the year and adjust my plan accordingly. =D

For "China", well learning Mandarin has always been a dream. Being able to speak Mandarin and understand its culture will justify my root. By the end of the day of course I would love to be able to speak more than just, "Wo ai ni." and "Wo ding bu dong, ni suo ze ma?" Of course I can speak just a little more than these words.

The plan looked pretty solid to me and I am proud of myself of having one. ;)

Efficiency and effectiveness bring good fortunes
The past week has been hectic. It was filled with fun and hard-work.

1. Singstar Pop
My second attempt on this version of Singstar! had been practicing in the MC flat, it paid off and took me to a different level on "The Reason". Oh yeah,.. bring it on! Mwahahahaha.....

However, Wednesday was an exceptionally good day. Although busy with tute/lecture/group meeting/LC Meeting, several good things happened that day. =)

2. SGM - the dreaded financial statement.
This makes me wonder why I ran for XCD in the first place, I didn't even have any background on accounting. I will propose a change in AIESEC Canterbury constitution that all FD or finance responsible has to have a minimun of 1 year Accounting study! Thank goodness for Wayne. The poor guy spent 16 hours fixing the statement up all by himself, and still stressing about the $3 missing.

3. Missed lab - for network and security course.
My weakest subject, I missed the tute last week because I couldn't find the room and it was cold and raining so I couldn't be bothered. Lagging one week behind apparently this lab requires you to have a partner. Partnered up with this chick who has a pretty knowledgable friend sitting next to her. So everything was a breeze. I told her that we only have 2 weeks to finish off the lab for the term (since I'm going to IC) and she's fine with it. YAY!

4. A Family Get-together
Yes, it has been quite a while since me and my cousin sitting down together in the living room and watching movie together. We watched "Bride and Prejudice". I refuse at first since I heard other people's comment after watching the movie and how crap the movie is. I was expecting more like "Bend It Like Beckham" but apparently this number is more like Indian movie I should say. A lot of mass-dancing and singing and people popping out of nowhere and joining the ritual. We ended up making comments about how hot Martin Henderson is (oh well for him, how hot the Indian chick is).

The rest of the week was pretty bright, too.

5. Finally getting the contingency budget done. The very good deal with one of the potential venues tastes like a drop of rain in the Sahara. He's our light in the darkness, a glimpse of hope in our despair! Not only him but other people in Methven aswell makes me think that maybe Methven is where all the good people go?

I work much more efficiently when I'm busy, so.. keep me busy.

Industrial Action.. WHOAT?!
As most of the students already know, the University staff are going to go on a nation-wide strike on Wednesday. While I thought the worst could happen is lectures got cancelled (YAY for us!) I received this email today:
Industrial action 20 July

...

...

We are unlikely to know how disruptive this action will be until the day, but we will keep you informed of any likely implications as we become aware of them.

Already, the University has been informed that, as a result of the strike involving staff responsible for the central boiler plant, the campus-wide heating system will not be operating on Wednesday. While lecture theatres will not be heated, they will be ventilated. It will be up to individual teaching staff who are not striking and their students to determine whether lectures will go ahead.

[Whoat?? In the middle of winter they are going to cut down the heater? This is so unacceptable.]

The Recreation Centre and the Central Library will be closed. The Health Centre, however, will be open.

[And Central Library will be closed? We need their copy services for goodness sake. We are in the middle of recruitment, here! Please be considerate!]

Students are advised that in the event of an emergency staff members
present would lead evacuation procedures.

You should check your e-mail accounts daily for any further updates.
No heating is not a reason for not doing AIESEC work though. We have a fan heater readily available for use in the office. This might be good, in a way, the members will come by to look for some warmth although I can assure you they are going to complain about a lot of things that day.

AIESEC Moments
"Like sand through the hour glass, so are the days of our lives"

Time flies so fast, it is now Friday already. One week ago I was still anticipating what July Forum would be like. I never thought this would be like September Forum all over again for me. My trip to Wellington and July Forum that comes with that was definitely the highlight of holiday.
  1. Singstar Pop - Second to best of Singstar collection. It has the latest pop songs and surprisingly, one kiwi song. Adi and I kicked butt on "The Reason" and Mussy was a real shocker when it comes to singing. The top score last quite long though, ... until Adi teamed up with Amy and ruined my all-time high score.

  2. It's good to be the LCP - This is the first time I actually representing AIESEC Canterbury and leading the whole delegation as an LCP! Not as "acting LCP", not with an "e" behind the title, just LCP. Ooh, it feels good when I flick my plague card to second motions (although I have to work on my wrist-flicking skill)
Amy Linky Su and AIESEC Canty

  3. LCP functional Time - We are so special we went out of the venue to do our functional time! ;) Not only that, we even climbed up the tree to discuss some serious national issues ;p However, it was fun though. It reminded me when I was 7, I used to climb up the roof to play mattress-surfing. But never a tree and never without adult supervision, though!

Who needs professional photoshoots? When we can look this posey?

It's best to be the LCP!

  4. Rugby and Singstar - two extremely different activities back to back. One was very manly while the other was girly. Doing this activities demonstrated AIESECers ability tostepping out of our comfort zone ie. watching rugby outside in the cold or singing your lungs out put of tune in front of 40 odd people in the middle of the night. Have to admit though, the LCP sucked as. HOWEVER.. blame it on the microphone, the bad choice of song and the sore-throat! ;D

  5. Happy Birthday, Giedre - On July 10th 2004 we were also in the middle of July Forum, celebrating Giedre's birthday. Where else can you celebrate birthday with people sing you Happy Birthday in 10 diferent languages? Only in AIESEC.

    Selamat Ulang Tahun, Giedre!

  6. AIESEC Canterbury mini reunion - Canterbury alumni made random apprearance in July Forum. Who needs that fancy schpancy alumni dinner where you can meet your fellow alumnus and present Canty AIESECers over pizza, beer and rugby?

  7. Random AIESEC moments - such as this:

It is that time of the year again
The new-year syndrome hits me once again. It's all because of the new AIESEC term just started a few days ago, and I am still adjusting. I still remember this time last year how annoyed Ryan was whenever I called him, "Alan." Now, my mindset sometimes still ICX-related. Somtimes I'm still thinking that Mussy is my functional director but then I realised that the person taking over is Vaishali.. but wait, I'm not even the ICX director anymore! Arrgh, I even annoyed at myself for not remembering that things have changed now and people are not what I thought they were anymore. One improvement from last year is I don't call myself "Ryan." (And thank goodness nobody mistakenly called me, "Ryan." Or else I'll be as annoyed as he was!) I sincerely hope things will get better after July Forum where I get to meet the brand-spankin' new MC team, and get to know them better of course!

I'm off to Wellington tomorrow noon and at the moment I'm still sitting quietly at the office preparing for the forum ( I shouldn't have left things until the last minute now, should I?) , I haven't even packed yet and my dried-but-now-wet-again clothes are still on the clothes line to top it off, it's spitting outside. But, I'm still excited for this forum. I heard so-and-so who just got back from her internship is going to run a session and Paulie is coming down for Saturday partaay and I also have asked Alan to come by as well! Well..well..well... ain't this gonna be Canty reunion, or what? Aaah.. remembering the good ol' days...

...
Woow.. it's the 1st of July already! Gosh, time flies. My term as LCP can now officially started. How exciting. Would I be a better LCP than Ryan? Hmm, I will get back with the answer next year I suppose.

What have I done in the last seven days?
  • Driving up to Methven : Woow, the longest trip I have ever done, with myself driving! I won't talk to/argue with/annoy any driving drivers anymore. Boy, driving for one-and-a-half hours nonstop is dead tiring!

  • Doing Warant of Fitness by myself. My uncle normally take me to a garage and he's the one who does all the filling in forms and talk to the mechanic. I did it myself yesterday, YAY! But it failed though, so at the moment I'm car-less - the feeling is horrible!

  • Taking the car to the garage to be fixed. Yes, this is my firt-time as well! Man, I'm getting more and more independent now!

  • Getting the planning done. This is the big bulk of my work this week. Planning. It is such a brain-draining thing to do. And after a few hours, you brain is just fried like KFC. In the end you'll be missing a few basic but important things here and there

  • Leisure reading. Yeah, finally I read books that are not uni-related. An old-time favourite that I haven't been doing since a loong loong time. Because time is worth more than diamond to me at the moment.

At the moment, some "my-time" would be nice. A time to think just about me, what I like, what I want to buy, where I want to go, what I want to do, who I want to go with etc etc. Aahh.. but I don't think that would be possible until next month. =(
