Yetisports

Monday, June 27, 2005

It's funny how little people wrote in their blog about the AB's winning over the Lions on Saturday. I watched the game from the comfort of my aunty's home with my cousin laughing at me whenever I drooled over Dan Carter - and I think it was a really good game. Like they say "Whether you win an inch, or a mile. Winning is winning." They won by 5 miles but where's your appreciation? I'm not going to do a full-review here about the game, cos I ain't rugby fan. Let the boys do it.

Let's talk about some other sport. Yetisports, the good ol' Yeti adventure is coming to an end. For those of you who doesn't know what a yetisport is, it is a game where a Yeti plays a game of sports in each of his adventure in different continent in the world. The so-called sport varies from throwing a penguin to golfing with flamingo-stick. It's a really fun game, I bet you'll be addicted to it in no time. Please don't let the guys do it, it could be dangerously competitive sometimes.

However, if you are very much against animal cruelty, I recommend some discretion on this game - otherwise it is a highly recommended game especially in the time of stress and a really good procrastination tool.

Anyways, I went to the website to play and it says Yeti is ending his adventure in his 9th game. Aww.. I better download the rest of the game before they decided to close down the website as well then.

If you decided to have a look .... and download the game, eventually. Enjoy, you're making the right decision ;)

Freaky Friday

Friday, June 24, 2005

I had a really really weird dream last night. The dream goes like this:

I was driving my little red car along the University Drive when I suddenly remembered that I supposed to meet up with Wayne before going to this ICX meeting. Running late, I went out of the car and just ran to the AIESEC office with the engine of my car still running and the car was actually still rolling slowly.

The next scene; I was sitting in a bus, with Wayne, going to Lincoln for our ICX Meeting. But then I realised that I have left my car in the middle of the road. I stopped the bus, told Wayne to ring the person we're meeting with to postpone the meeting for an hour and ran down to the other end of the University Drive to find my car. If you have been to UoC, you know there's a creek and there are grassy bit with trees along the banks of the creek. In my dream, the creek was flooding, it almost like a river! There were a lot of cars crashed into the trees and some of them even drowned in the flooding creek.

Yes I found my car. Drowned. I was so gutted and then came my cousins from the middle of nowhere, blaming me for my stupidity. But what I was worrying about was not so much about the car but about the meeting that I missed!!

That was the weird dream I had, it doesn't really make any sense now, does it? This is what I did when I was procrastinating in the office. I checked out the online dream interpretation website to see what my dream is telling me. This is what I found:

To dream that you are riding a bus, implies that you are going along with the crowd. You are lacking originality and are taking no control over where your life is taking.

To see someone drowning in your dream, suggests that you are becoming too deeply involved in something that is beyond your control. Alternatively, it represents a sense of loss in your own identity. You are unable to differentiate who you are anymore.

To dream that you are late or miss a meeting, signifies anxieties that you are not measuring when it comes to your professional life and toward achieving your goals. You may feel unprepared in some situation or challenge in your waking life.

To see your friends in your dream, signifies aspects of your personality that you have rejected, but are ready to integrate these rejected part of yourself. The relationships you have with those around you are important in learning about yourself. Additionally, this symbol foretells of happy tidings from them and the arrival of good news.

To see your cousin in your dream, represents something or some aspect of your character that is somewhat familiar. Perhaps you need to spend more time in cultivating and developing some emerging ability or character.

Then to what degree does the interpretation of my dream is true? Let's find out!
The lacking originality bit - somewhat true. I have been planning my life around what other people told me what I should do. And yes, I don't know what I'm going to do this time next year, there has been quite a few discussion about this with several people in the last couple of weeks.

The involvement in something that is beyond my control/ sense of loss in own identity bit - I am currently involved in something beyond my control but I don't think I have lost my own identity.

The anxiety bit - this is soooo true! Spot on!

The personality/ learning about yourself bit - Hmm, maybe somewhat related to the previous post? Uh, spooky!

The developing character bit - This is true, I have been thinking about this quite a bit lately.
It was fun, but also freaky at the same time to see how the dream does relate to what is happening in your waking life! I guess I just have too much time on my hand with little to do. No no, this is not a hint for you guys to give me work or things to think about! ;)

Next time you have a weird dream, It might be pays off to check what it actually means. Hmm.. I'm still thinking about what good news will I get in the near future? ;D

A life outside AIESEC

Wednesday, June 22, 2005

- oh yes there is one!

Many people - if not most- think that I don't have a life outside AIESEC merely because I spend 6 to 8 hours a day in the office. Actually, what they don't know is... my life outside New Zealand is no AIESEC at all.

Little did they know, while I'm sitting here in front of our dusty computer I actually socialising with my mates outside the country. Due to time difference, this is the only time I could actually talk to most of them through MSN and/or replying to emails and/or updating blog (like what I'm doing now).

Speaking about the life outside AIESEC, during my first 17 years of life apparently I have built an extensive network of friends myself, without even knowing it. People just come and go in my life and sometimes they came back sometimes they don't. Amongst those people who went and came back there's my primary school friend. We lost touch for a little less than 10 years. Thanks to friendster, now we're exchanging postcards! There are other people as well who came back from the past and we just picked up our friendship right where we left off.

Some people know me for ever, or for a looong time, or even for a couple of years. When I come to think about it, it's amazing how close I am with those I knew for a couple of years in comparison to those I knew for a longer while. I have been in a situation where I left my friends and where my friends left me. This kinda proves my own little theory about time and proximity dictates your degree of friendship.

There are people who were my close friends but as the space between us grew the friendship we had kind of grew apart. How it happened is still a mystery to me but that's a natural thing to happen, I guess... maybe... hmmm..(I'm a firm believer that relationship should not changed just because of time and space.)

But.., there are two individuals that value friendship as much as I do. We knew each other for 9 years, of which I spent 4 years away from them. But nothing has changed between us, our friendship has passed the test of time and space. (It passed with an A- ;). We have our own little life somewhere in the corner of the world but we kept in touch still and the best thing is we're still as good friends as we were before.

Well, some people might come and go out of my life but the friends I made in NZ certainly outweight those who goes and doesn't come back. And I believe I also have made a life-long friends in AIESEC. So, no more bollocks saying I'm spending too much time in the office, thank you very much. :p

Warm Winter

Sunday, June 19, 2005

This week has been a blast. Not only I was able to do a full-time AIESEC work but I found my balance in life! No terribly exciting things happened this week, but everything that happened were good things.

1. Girls Night In. Me and my girlfriends watched Garden State (written and directed by Zach Braff from the TV series "SCRUBS") on DVD on monday night. A simple but sweet story line about a troubled TV actor( with limited success in acting department) who fell for this "weird" innocent girl (Natalie Portman) he met in his hometown when he was visiting to attend his mom's funeral..

If you can't laugh at yourself, life's gonna seem a whole lot longer than you like.

2. LC-BoA get together. We succesfully organised a get-together for the LC members and the Board of Advisors members and not to forget two of our SNs who has past RBs (yeah baby, talking about common induction!). It went pretty well and the SNs now understand more of what AIESEC actually stands for and they are willing to get involved in the LC before they go! YAY! On the other hand, the BoA now understand the history of AIESEC Canterbury and they think we're progressing well. Everybody was so into helping us to get intern in!

3. French Film Festival Project. After a few long weeks of waiting, someone from France got back to me at last !! It has been a little bit slow but I believe with a little patience and determination, this will be the start of something big ;)

4. Family Time. My aunty, her Japanese boarder and I went to Hoyts to watch Mr. and Mrs. Smith. A highly recommended movie to watch for several reasons; good actors (C'mon, It's Brad Pitt we're talking about here), witty lines and a reasonably big amount of action scenes. It also features that dude who plays in the O.C, too!

5. Ratana's Visit. Ratana, the Swiss AIESECer from Otago, came by to visit Christchurch before he's off to North Island. We had dinner organised like always. One thing I learnt from this is never trust Nick and his telecom mobile to organise such thing. One time we agreed to dine in Little Saigon - a cheapo Vietnamese place in town. I got there and asked for a table for 5. The waitress shooed off a man who was sitting on that table, waiting for his takeaway . But a few moments later I got a text saying that we're not dining there anymore! How unreliable! The dinner was followed by a night at the Fox and Ferret. We were waiting for the pool table to be vacant, but it seems like people just can't have enough of it. :(

Since Ratana is leaving NZ, we thought we're going to do something else the next day. Yeap, we did a Big Breakfast on Saturday morning! A full cooked breakfast complete with bacon, egg, hash brown and sausages! Mmmm... yum! Antony taught us a card game called... Doubt/ Bullshit/Cheat- whatever. The rule of the game is similar to "Bullshit" (like the one in How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days). Had so much fun in playing that game! In the evening we sent Ratana off. See ya later, Ratana, I'm sorry I acidentally dropped you off the community! :)

6. Venue Inspection. Jo and I drove up to Oxford to inspect one of the possible venues for MS 06. Ha, see, we're into it already! It feels like dejavu. Driving on the same road, listening to the same music (over and over again for one hour and a half). Aah, yeap. I did this before.., with Giedre! =) The venue inspection followed by window shopping at Northland Mall on the way home!

To top it off, the last two days has been all warm in Christchurch. Not only the sun is shining, but the weather is actually warm for winter. I'm lovin' it!

In my opinion....

Wednesday, June 15, 2005

I read a lot of interesting but useless stuff yesterday. And these are my opinion about some of the things I read.

I think ... what's in this list is true. But there are other things that makes women happier than men. Women have wider choice of colour to choose from (No one hassle you for wearing pink shirt.), women wear skirts AND pants, women have that time-of-the-month that lower the chance of getting prostate cancer ;p, our smile goes a long way, we can express our emotion at ALL time, we can be weak - and the guys will be gladly helping us (while otherwise, we tell them to stop being a wuss), we don't have ego as big as Mount Kilimanjaro, ladies' first, women are the neck of the family (and we steer to where the head turns ;) We can work in a beer factory (and people think it's sexy) - but when men works as a hairdresser or fashion designer people think they're gay. We can take care of ourselves as much as we want without being judged, (add yours here)... There you go ladies, what else can I say?

I think, this Ladder Theory are bollocks. I can't believe these people say these things. Retard.

I think PostSecret is wicked. It brings out the creativity in you and provide some sort of comfort for those who share the same secret.

Back from Hibernation

Tuesday, June 14, 2005

The last 10 days had been a crazy study-spree. With 2 tests and only 8 days to cram (Yes, I know, bad time-management! Shouldn't have left it til the last minute!) I shut myself from the outside world in that period of time. For the first time ever in my study-life I actually have time to revise the material on the day! For my last test I even had 2 hours spare time which I spent in the office chatting with Adi...and kicking Nick's butt in singing Jesse McCartney's Beautiful Soul. Hahaha!

Anyhow, what's done is done. I don't even want to think about tests anymore. Let other people worry about that now because I'm through with it, .. at least for now. There have been highlights, of course (mostly before and after the study period hehehe...). Studying not all bad, you know! Especially when you have the routine of getting in at 9 am to reserve your best seat in the library (Level 9, overlooking Christchurch city), preparing your own (healthy) lunch because you can't be bothered to go down to the cafe and queue up for food, and have all the time in the world to daydream .. or nap when you're feeling tired.

Some of the highlights in the past 10 days up to date are....

Abhijeet Malik - he came for a couple of nights and took off for his South Island Adventure trip and came back again for another couple of nights. He trully live by the saying, "If not now, when? If not you, then.. who?" When two womble holders (current and past ;) got together you surely must have womble moment (and yes yes we have!). As we walked to Antony's there was a really cool limousine with neon light underneath, driving past. I went, "Oww, limousine!" And Abhi asked, "Nikita do you want a limousine?" To which of course I answered, "Naah, it's too hard to drive." Then Abhi started cracking up laughing while I stood there-confused. What's so funny about that? It would be hard to drive a limo, wouldn't it?. He then said, "Honey, this is why you don't have romantic life. I mean if somebody else rent it out for you!" Ooh, now we're talking! In that case Abhi, of course I want to! ;p Now, let me ask you who's wombler- him or me?

Aditi - CONGRATULATION on getting in to DHL Singapore. It is sooo wicked! Visting Indonesia won't just be a dream anymore. I am soo happy for you. You're going to have heaps of fun for sure.

Ying - Miss LCP elect of AIESEC Auckland. Big congrats to you too and welcome to the very prestigious president club of AIESEC NZ ;p Best of luck for your new EB and looking forward to working with you!

My old mates - If there has ever been a time when three of your old mates (none of them are related) that you haven't spoken to in ages chat with you at the same time, it is today. Is today some kind of "Remembering The Old Mates" day or something? I feel so.... loved. =D

Birthday wish - I never remember my birthday wishes and whether it has came true, because too many wishes has been made in the past and none of them came true. But just the other day, I realised that one wish that a friend of mine made at the beginning of the year, on my birthday dinner, has came true. I always though it will happen *hopefully* but never thought it would be this soon. No no, I'm not telling what the wish was.

Holiday - Being able to do anything, anytime without having to worry about school! Pure bliss!

Now I'm back from hibernation, will have to start working on my to-do list before July Forum. So many things to look forward to for the next couple of months. I can't wait! Can life get any better than this?
