Living Out of the Suitcase #1

Destination: Christchurch

I dont know how I missed Christchurch until I got here. I forget how Christchurch can be until I got out of the airport! Everything so familiar it feels like I'm just coming back from a conference.

Home-cooked meals
Nothing better than a home-cooked meal! The fact that dinner is waiting just after 6 is pure bliss! I havent had that for so long I tried to savour every taste. I kid you not, I have not had a proper dinner (as in 6pm dinner on a dining table) for far too long it makes it special. The fact that my Aunty is a good cook might be a contributing factor. ;)

The University lifestyle
Yes, this is the place where the coffee is over-priced and the quality is below par. This is the place where the students could wear their clubs' tee with shorts and jandals to the University. This is also the place where all of the randomness takes place. The random chalkings, the student protests and everything else in between.

The City of Waiting
When I got back, I remembered to always thank the bus driver. Now I know why I hate the bus system in here - it keeps you waiting for ages! Of course it is incomparable to the nasty meany bus drivers in Wellington for sure! But honestly, it took me a whole one and a half hours to get home from the University.

This city is a lot less dynamic. It seems like the city plays in slow motion. No people dressed in black rushing around. Not even in the central city. I guess this is Christchurch where everything is so laid-back. It is good for a change after a couple of months living in Wellington where things are fast-paced!

People I met
Well, this is a bit different. I got to know quite a few new people during my short stay in Christchurch. From an Austrian who came to NZ for a visit to the long-lost past LCP!! Yes, good timing, Jolly Joel! It was good to see Joel again after a long while, it made me feel younger :) he-he.

Thank God for FLAT GROUND!
One thing that you cant possibly missed is the flat ground. It is called the "Canterbury Plain" for a reason! I dont mind walking a couple of blocks each morning (Yes, can't even believe myself for saying I dont mind walking) because it's all flat. Although I do also realise that it takes double the time to get to anywhere.

Choi's
One thing that I wanted to do in Christchurch is to go to the Korean BBQ place where Amy, Nick and I went to the last time Amy visited Christchurch. Ahh, the experience is still as interesting as the first time. This time I went there with Nicholas, James and Ben... three white boys who are "slightly" taller than me. It was a mission for them to sit down cross-legged. It was hillarious! Excellent food (Ox tongue, Pork Belly- Yum! :p) and good service (except the part when they dont accept EFTPOS card. Who carries cash these days, eh?)

Looking forward to the next destination... Auckland.
